On surface to be patched first remove all loose paint, plaster, splinters, dirt, chalk, grease, etc. Check for moisture. Sand any glossy areas to help insure maximum adhesion. Dust the surface clean with a dry paint brush.

Note: Use only on clean, dry and primed surfaces. New or unpainted surface should be fully primed prior to use. Use only in conjunction with high quality primers, sealers and top coats.

Apply with clean, dry putty or broad knife and press firmly into areas to be filled. Larger holes and cracks may require more than one application. Feather out product to help insure a complete fill. Allow material to thoroughly dry. Drying time depends on size and depth of fill, environmental conditions and the substrate on which product is being applied. Do not apply to outside areas if heavy dew or rain is expected within 24 hours. If needed, sand lightly until patch is level with surface. Use of a NIOSH approved dust mask is recommended during the sanding process. Dust all patched areas after sanding. Apply a high quality primer/sealer over all patched areas - inside and out. Areas patched which are going to be top coated with a gloss or semi-gloss paint should also be sealed.

Sanding and TM-80

TM-80 is an additive manufactured exclusively by Crawford Products and embodied into every batch of Crawford's Free.

Because all patching compounds should be sanded to help eliminate minor surface imperfections in the patch itself, Crawford's formulated TM-80...the additive that "takes the work out of sanding." Once dry the patch becomes exceptionally easy to sand. After sanding simply use a clean, dry paint brush to remove any residue remaining on the patch. What's left behind is a smooth, ready-to-prime surface. The patch will eventually become as hard as a putty coat plaster.
