The following points provide professional tips on preparing the surfaces on which Crawford's Free Spackling paste will be applied.
- Crawford's Free Spackling paste can be used on new and old wood surfaces, plaster and drywall, inside or out.
- Use only on shalow hammer marks, small cracks and holes, and other minor surface defacements. This product is not intended to be used for large surface area repairs or as a surface repair compound.
- If your not sure of any specific application for the spackling paste, test it first on a small area before proceeding to do the whole job.
- Only use Crawford’s free Spackling Paste over non-corrosive nail and screw heads like stainless steel, especially with exterior applications. Use a number 304 stainless steel nail for general siding and number 316 for seacoast exposures. As a water based product, spackling paste is subject to rust contamination if these types of materials are not used.
- Use common sense, Do not attempt to prepare the surface if cold or moist air is forcast. Do not apply in temperatures below 55 degrees fareheit.
- Be sure that all nail and screw heads are properly countersunk to avoid protrusions and uneven surfaces before apply spackling.
- For a professional finished look and better adhesion, be sure to sand all wood surfaces and glossy areas to a smooth finish, and remove any dirt, dust, debris and moisture.
- For consistent finishing results, surfaces should be fully primed using a product compatible with the overall job, and let to dry according to the manufacturers specifications.
