Spackling Paste Instructions
CRAWFORD’S SPACKLING PASTE is a multi-purpose, premixed, ready-to-use vinyl patching compound for many interior and exterior surfaces. Crawford’s Free contains no asbestos, mercury, tin other heavy metal biocides or fungicides, formaldehyde or added allice. Crawford’s Free can be applied to previously painted or fully primed wood, painted or primed drywall and plaster. Crawford’s Free is designed to quickly and easily fill small cracks, primed nail hoses, shallow hammer marks, gouges and other minor surface defacements. Crawford’s Free exhibits easy knifing and slippage with no kick-up; superior adhesion to well-prepared substrates; excellent sanding properties; good drying time; plus resists shrinking, cracking and sagging.
Directions: On surface to be patched first remove all loose paint, plaster, splinters, dirt, chalk, grease, etc. Check for moisture. Sand any gloss areas to help insure maximum adhesion, Dust the surface clean with a dry paint brush prior to application. Apply with clean, dry putty or broad knife and press firmly into areas to be filled. Larger hoes and cracks may require more than one application. Feather out product to help insure complete fill. Allow material to thoroughly dry. Drying time depends on size and depth of fill, environmental conditions and the substrate on which product is being applied. If need, sand light until patch is level with surface. Use of NIOSH approved dust mask is recommended during sanding process.
Dust all patched areas after sanding. Apply a high quality primer/sealer over all patched areas-inside and out. Areas patched which are going to be top coated with a gloss or semi-gloss paint should also be sealed.
Note; Use only on clean, dry and primed surfaces. New or unpainted surfaces should be fully primed prior to use. Use only in conjunction with high quality primers, sealers and top coats. Do not apply to outside areas if heavy dew or rain is expected within 24 hours. Do not apply in temperatures below 55 degrees F. All surfaces are different and should be examined for dry rot, moisture, etc. before applying any surface repair compound.
